Itinerary

Your holiday itinerary (ex Perth, Western Australia)

Day 1. Perth to Cairns (D)
Today we collect you from home for the flight to Cairns via Brisbane. Upon arrival in Cairns, we transfer to our hotel and we will come together for a late welcome dinner.
4 nights: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort.

Day 2. Cairns City Tour and Aquarium (BD)
Awaken in tropical North Queensland. After breakfast board the coach for a guided tour to explore Cairns and it’s colourful stories. Visit Rusty’s Markets and have lunch at your leisure. After lunch visit the Cairns Aquarium and view the incredible biodiversity of two adjoining World Heritage Listed areas – The Wet Tropics and The Great Barrier Reef. As the newest and largest public aquarium in Australia, it is considered the best in the country. This evening enjoy dinner while sailing along the serene Trinity Inlet.

Day 3. Rainforest and railways (BD)
Built over 100 years ago, the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway provides a spectacular scenic route between Cairns and Kuranda. Aboard this magnificent rail journey, you will wind your way past mountainous walls of the Barron Gorge National Park, through solid granite rock tunnels and tumbling rainforest waterfalls. Upon arrival in Kuranda, immerse yourself in the lush greenery of the “village in a rainforest”. Explore this top tourist attraction (at your own expense), wander through the famous markets or simply relax and enjoy the village. Then join an amazing gondola experience above the Wet Tropics rainforest for the return journey to Cairns.

Day 4. Botanical Gardens and Palm Cove (BD)
This morning we visit the of the Flecker Botanic Gardens, which showcases an impressive display of tropical flora including some of the rarest plants in the world. Established in 1886, this is considered one of the best exhibitions of tropical plants in Australia. Discover babbling brooks, ornate bridges and lush vegetation on your guided tour of this tropical oasis. Learn about tropical flora and horticulture. Enjoy lunch amongst the gardens. Following this explore the northern beach of Palm Cove. Return to Cairns for some free time in the afternoon before dinner out at a restaurant on the Esplanade.

Day 5. Crocodiles and Port Douglas (BLD)
It’s time to bid farewell to Cairns and head north to the idyllic, tropical town of Port Douglas. Take the journey north along the spectacular Great Barrier Reef Drive, a coastal road alongside the forest and the Coral Sea. Then view hundreds of crocodiles at Hartley’s Creek Crocodile Adventures wildlife park, an award-winning eco-tourism attraction. Wander along boardwalks and pathways to discover the wildlife zones and join a boat cruise on the wetlands. On arrival into Port Douglas enjoy free time exploring the village, Macrossan Street, the marina, boutique shops and cafes.
3 nights: Oaks Port Douglas

Day 6. Cape Tribulation, Mossman and Daintree (BLD)
Travel to Cape Tribulation; through some of the oldest rainforest in the world … Included is morning tea and a driver guided walk at Mossman Gorge, a cruise on the Daintree River, delicious tropical BBQ lunch set amongst the rainforest, walk on famous Cape Tribulation Beach, a delicious exotic fruit ice cream cup at the Daintree Ice Cream Company and a photo stop at Alexandra Lookout. This is the real tropical North Queensland.

Day 7. Free day Port Douglas (BD)
Today is your free day to do as you wish. You may like to stroll the boutiques, laze by the pool or take a tour out to the Reef. This evening, everyone is invited to come together for a farewell dinner.

Day 8. Depart Port Douglas (B)
Arise bright and early to soak in the last of the warm weather before beginning your journey home.

Our tour activity levels are a guide to the required fitness level for each of our holidays.


Look out for the feet when reading about a tour!

  • Relaxed

    Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

  • Moderate

    For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

  • Active

    For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

  • Highly Active

    Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. No walkers allowed.

  • Challenging

    For travellers with a high level of fitness and previous outdoor experience. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
