For travellers requiring a higher level of support, private or customised travel arrangements may be the most suitable option. Mobility & Health Requirements

  • Accessibility standards vary between destinations, accommodation providers, transportation services and attractions.
  • Some itineraries may involve walking, uneven surfaces, stairs, cobblestones, inclines, or extended periods of standing.
  • Accessible rooms, mobility equipment and special assistance services are often available but may require advance reservation and are subject to availability.
  • If you use a wheelchair, walking aid, scooter, or other mobility equipment, please advise us before booking so we can assess suitability and make appropriate arrangements where possible.
  • In some cases, Villa may request a medical clearance from your doctor prior to travel.

Look for the feet

At Villa Carlotta, we grade our tours by fitness and mobility levels to help guests choose experiences that match their comfort and abilities.


On each tour displayed on our website and itineraries, you will find a little foot logo. The highlighted feet indicate the level of activity and physical requirements for each tour, with one foot being the least physically challenging to five foot being the most physically challenging.

  • Relaxed

    Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

  • Moderate

    Required to walk confidently and unaided. Expect guided walking tours of attractions with occasional inclines and stair climbs, some long days and multiple hotel changes during the holiday. Your accommodation may require access via stairs, a short walk to reach hotel facilities and have showers over baths. Can walk confidently on mostly level ground and gravel. Travellers with walking sticks are welcome unless there is overnight rail or overnight cruising - please check with staff.

  • Active

    For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

  • Highly Active

    Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility.You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. Not suitable for travellers who require the use of walking aids or assistance from others. 

  • Challenging

    For travellers with a high level of fitness and previous outdoor experience. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
