Experience the rust-red gorges and turquoise beaches of Western Australia’s North West on this ten-day road trip. Travel north through wheatbelt and gold mining country to the Pilbara, where you spend two nights in eco-luxe safari tents in the heart of Karijini National Park. Walk among deep gorges, waterfalls and clear pools, then head west to the coast to explore Cape Range National Park and the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area. Cruise Yardie Creek, see the coral of Ningaloo Reef from a glass bottom boat and visit working outback stations along the way. This tour offers an unforgettable mix of outback landscapes, coastal wonders and country history.
Itinerary
Day 1. Perth to Dalwallinu – Bindoon and New Norcia (LD)
We collect you from home and travel north to the Bindoon Museum, where the local historical society shares the story of the Bindoon and Chittering Shires over morning tea. Continue to New Norcia for lunch and a guided tour with a local resident to learn about Australia’s only monastic town. This afternoon, travel on through wheatbelt country to Dalwallinu for dinner.

Day 2. Dalwallinu to Meekatharra – Outback Gold Mining Towns (BD)
Head into the outback on the road to Meekatharra, learning about the early pastoral and gold mining days along the way. Stop at Paynes Find for morning tea, then enjoy lunch at leisure in the historic town of Mount Magnet. Continue through Cue to Meekatharra for dinner.
Overnight: Auski Inland Motel, Meekatharra
Day 3. Meekatharra to Newman – Into the Pilbara (BLD)
Continue north into the Pilbara with a comfort stop and morning tea at Kumarina and a picnic lunch along the way. On arrival in Newman, visit the Martumili Art Gallery to see art by local Aboriginal artists from the region.

Day 4. Newman to Karijini National Park – Eco Retreat (BLD)
Travel through amazing Pilbara landscapes into Karijini National Park, with morning tea and a picnic lunch in the park. Settle into your eco-luxe safari tent at the Karijini Eco Retreat and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the outback. This evening, look up at the brilliant stars of the outback night sky.

Day 5. Karijini National Park – Dales Gorge and Fortescue Falls (BLD)
Spend the day exploring one of Australia’s most spectacular national parks. Visit Dales Gorge to see its sheer red walls, the beautiful Fortescue Falls with its clear, fresh pools and take in sweeping views from the lookouts. Enjoy morning tea and a picnic lunch in the park before returning to the retreat for dinner.
Day 6. Karijini to Exmouth – Pilbara to the Coast (BD)
Leave the Hamersley Range and head west towards the coast. Stop at Cheela Plains Station for morning tea and a look at life on the station, then enjoy lunch at leisure at Nanutarra before arriving in Exmouth.
Two nights: Potshot Hotel Resort, Exmouth
Day 7. Exmouth – Cape Range National Park and Yardie Creek (BLD)
Travel into Cape Range National Park along the Ningaloo Coast. After morning tea, board a cruise on Yardie Creek to see the gorge and watch for rare black-footed rock wallabies on the cliffs. Enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by nature before returning to Exmouth for dinner.
Day 8. Exmouth to Carnarvon – Bullara Station and Coral Bay (BLD)
Travel south to Bullara Station for morning tea and a look at life on a working cattle station. In Coral Bay, board a glass bottom boat to see the colourful coral and marine life of Ningaloo Reef, followed by lunch at Bill’s Bar. Continue to Carnarvon and visit the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum before dinner.
Overnight: Best Western Hospitality Inn, Carnarvon
Day 9. Carnarvon to Geraldton – Wooramel Station (BD)
Continue south to Wooramel River Retreat, a family-owned working station, for morning tea and time to explore. Learn the story of the station’s hot baths, and pack your bathers and a towel in case there is time for a quick dip. After lunch at leisure, travel along the North West Coastal Highway to Geraldton for dinner.

Day 10. Geraldton to Perth – Farewell to the North West (BL)
Begin the journey home with morning tea at Port Denison, then continue along the coast to Jurien Bay for a farewell lunch together. Continue to Perth where you will be taken safely home after a memorable North West adventure.
*Karijini Eco Retreat tents include en-suites. We recommend you bring a small torch for walking between your tent and the dining area after dark, and warm bed clothing, as night temperatures can drop below zero.
Please note: Accommodation in Meekatharra is simple, functional mining-style lodging. While clean and comfortable, facilities are basic compared to standard hotel accommodation. This is the best available in the area, and we appreciate your understanding.
Travel to and within Karijini National Park involves long driving distances through remote areas. Walks in Karijini may include uneven ground, steps and steep sections, and require a moderate to good level of fitness. Please be prepared for long days and a reasonable level of physical activity to fully enjoy this destination.

Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.
