Itinerary

Your holiday itinerary (ex Perth, Western Australia)

Day 1. Perth to Kununurra – Welcome to the East Kimberley (D)
Our courtesy taxi collects you from home and takes you to Perth Airport for your afternoon flight north to Kununurra. On arrival you will be taken to your hotel in Kununurra, where you will stay for the next four nights. This evening, meet your fellow travellers over a relaxed welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2. Ord River and Lake Argyle – Farmlands, Homesteads and Wildlife (BLD)
Today follows the mighty Ord River. Travel through the green farmland of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme to Lake Argyle, a huge inland sea surrounded by rugged ranges. Visit the historic Durack Homestead and take in wide views from a scenic lookout. After a riverside lunch, enjoy a wildlife cruise on the Ord River, keeping watch for freshwater crocodiles, wallabies and some of the 240 bird species found in the region. Return to Kununurra for dinner at the hotel.

Day 3. Kununurra at Leisure – Your Day, Your Way (BD)
Today is yours to relax at the hotel or explore further on an optional tour. You may like to see the famous beehive domes of the Bungle Bungles, discover El Questro and Emma Gorge, or take a scenic flight for a bird’s-eye view of the Kimberley. This evening, join the group again for dinner at the hotel.

Day 4. Kununurra – Local Stories, Aboriginal Art and Dinner Under the Stars (BLD)
This morning visit the Kununurra Museum to learn about the Ord Irrigation Project and the ancient fossils of the Kimberley. Continue to Waringarri Aboriginal Arts Centre for a guided tour and cultural experience with local Miriwoong people. Lunch is at the Hoochery Distillery, home of the oldest operating still in Western Australia, enjoy a tasting and a look around the distillery. After time to freshen up at the hotel, head out for a true Kimberley highlight: a four-course Gourmet Camp Oven dinner served under the stars among boab trees and red cliffs.

Day 5. Kununurra to Perth – Farewell to the Kimberley (B)
After breakfast, transfer to Kununurra Airport for your morning flight home to Perth. On arrival you will be met and taken safely home after a memorable East Kimberley adventure.

Our tour activity levels are a guide to the required fitness level for each of our holidays.


Look out for the feet when reading about a tour!

  • Relaxed

    Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

  • Moderate

    For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

  • Active

    For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

  • Highly Active

    Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. No walkers allowed.

  • Challenging

    For travellers with a high level of fitness and previous outdoor experience. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
