Board The Prospector High-Speed Train

See the rich red earth of the Goldfields and some of Australia’s whitest sand on this six-day journey through Western Australia’s Golden Outback. Travel by The Prospector high-speed train from Perth to Kalgoorlie and explore the heart of the state’s gold mining region, from the giant Super Pit to the Museum of the Goldfields. Head south through Norseman to Esperance, where rugged coastline and brilliant white beaches await in Cape Le Grand National Park. On the way home, stand beneath the famous Wave Rock at Hyden. This tour offers a memorable mix of gold rush history, wide open spaces and spectacular coastal scenery.
Itinerary
Day 1. Perth to Kalgoorlie – The Prospector (D)
We collect you from home and take you to board The Prospector for an early morning departure. Relax on board as the high-speed train carries you through the vast Wheatbelt and into the rugged Goldfields. On arrival in Kalgoorlie, you are met at the station for a tour of the town before checking in and enjoying dinner together.
Two nights: Quality Inn Railway Motel, Kalgoorlie*
Day 2. Kalgoorlie – The Richest Square Mile on Earth (BD)
This morning view the giant KCGM Super Pit,** where you will be amazed by the size of the dump trucks and may even see a blast. Continue to the Museum of the Goldfields for morning tea and a museum tour and see Paddy Hannan’s statue. After lunch at leisure, visit Hannan’s North Tourist Mine to learn about life in the early gold mining days, before returning for dinner this evening.
Day 3. Kalgoorlie to Esperance – Through the Goldfields (BD)
Travel south to Kambalda to take in the sweeping views across Lake Lefroy, then enjoy morning tea at Widgiemooltha. After lunch at leisure in Norseman, see the town from Beacon Hill Lookout, along with the famous horse statue and tin camel sculptures. Continue through Salmon Gums to Esperance, arriving late in the afternoon in time to relax before dinner.
Two nights: Hospitality Esperance, Esperance
Day 4. Esperance – Cape Le Grand National Park and Stonehenge (BLD)
Start the day with the views from Rotary Lookout, then travel to Cape Le Grand National Park to see the brilliant white sand and turquoise water of Lucky Bay and Thistle Cove, with morning tea at Hellfire Bay. Visit Esperance Stonehenge, a full-size replica of the original, then enjoy lunch at the Esperance Bird and Animal Park. The afternoon is free to relax or explore before dinner.
Day 5. Esperance to Hyden – Fitzgerald River and Hopetoun (BD)
Travel west to Fitzgerald River National Park for morning tea at Barrens Beach and a look at some of the park’s scenic spots. Enjoy lunch in the coastal village of Hopetoun on the shores of Mary Ann Haven, then continue through the farming country of Ravensthorpe and Lake King to Hyden for dinner.
Overnight: Wave Rock Motel, Hyden
Day 6. Hyden to Perth – Wave Rock (BL)
This morning visit Wave Rock, a 2.7 billion year old granite rock that rises 15 metres high and stretches 110 metres like a giant breaking wave. Cross the Wheatbelt with morning tea in Kulin and a farewell lunch in Corrigin, then travel home along the Brookton Highway to Perth, where you will be taken safely home.
*The Railway Motel is a two-storey property with showers over the bath. Ground floor rooms cannot be guaranteed.
Please note: Super Pit tours may be cancelled without notice due to the operational nature of the mine. If this happens, we will arrange an alternative attraction.
** All Super Pit tour participants must be wearing the MANDATORY clothing - Sturdy fully enclosed shoes with socks, which must completely cover the foot, enclosing the whole top of the foot (NO high heels), long sleeves to the wrist and long pants to the ankles (NO rips or tears). The only acceptable skin that can be exposed is that of the head and hands. Disposal coveralls are available to purchase if required. All participants MUST have a 0.00% zero alcohol breath reading.

Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. No walkers allowed.

For travellers with a high level of fitness and previous outdoor experience. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
