Step into the heart of Western Australia’s Goldfields on a five-day journey of history, character and big-sky landscapes. Trace the Golden Pipeline across the Wheatbelt, explore Kalgoorlie’s working heritage and discover ghost towns and museums that bring the gold rush to life. Visit Leonora and the remarkable historic precinct of Gwalia, then wander among Antony Gormley’s world-famous Salt People at Lake Ballard. Round things off in comfort aboard the high-speed Prospector train back to Perth.
Itinerary
Day 1. Perth to Kalgoorlie (D)
Travel east along the Great Eastern Highway through the Wheatbelt, following the Golden Pipeline that carried life to the Goldfields. Along the way you will pause at country towns before arriving in Kalgoorlie. Here you will settle into your hotel and enjoy a welcoming dinner with fellow travellers.
2 nights Quality Inn Railway Motel, Kalgoorlie
Day 2. The Golden Mile (BD)
This morning you will step back in time at Hannan’s North Tourist Mine, where you can relive the early days of the gold rush. After enjoying lunch at leisure, explore the Museum of the Goldfields and discover its treasures. Later, gaze into the immense Super Pit, one of the largest open-cut mines in the world, before finishing the day with sweeping views from Mount Charlotte.
Day 3. Golden Quest Discovery Trail (BLD)
Today the journey continues along part of the Golden Quest Discovery Trail. You will enjoy the hospitality of Menzies before visiting the historic ghost town of Gwalia. Explore Hoover House, the museum and restored miner’s cottages that tell stories of a bygone era. The day concludes in Leonora where you will relax for the evening.

Day 4. Lake Ballard and the Salt People (BLD)
Departing Leonora, you will pause at Niagara Dam before travelling to Lake Ballard. Here you will wander among 51 striking steel figures designed by world-renowned artist Antony Gormley. Set against the brilliant white salt lake, the sculptures are a truly unforgettable sight. After a picnic lunch and time to explore, the journey returns to Kalgoorlie with a visit to the Broad Arrow Tavern along the way.

Day 5. Prospector train to Perth (B)
This morning you will board the Prospector train for a high-speed journey from Kalgoorlie to East Perth Terminal. Relax in comfort as you watch the landscape roll by, before being transferred safely to your home.
• Quality Inn Railway Motel is a two-storey property with showers over bath; ground-floor rooms cannot be guaranteed.
• Super Pit touring is subject to operational conditions and may be cancelled without notice. If required, an alternative attraction will be arranged.
• Mandatory attire for any Super Pit tour: sturdy fully enclosed shoes with socks, long sleeves to the wrist and long pants to the ankles. Only head and hands may be exposed.

Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access.
