Travel along the Golden Quest Discovery Trail to the ghost town of Gwalia, where time seems frozen in the days of boom and bust. From mining marvels to outback townships, this immersive holiday offers a rare glimpse into the region’s pioneering spirit and rugged beauty, leaving you with a lasting connection to Western Australia’s living history.
Itinerary
Day 1. The Prospector rail journey to Kalgoorlie (D)
Your holiday begins with a courtesy home collection to the East Perth Terminal to board The Prospector. Watch the forests of the Darling Escarpment give way to the Wheatbelt and vast Goldfields. On arrival in Kalgoorlie you will be transferred to your central accommodation to settle in before dinner.
Overnight for 4 nights: Quality Inn Railway Motel, Kalgoorlie*
Day 2. Golden Mile and the Super Pit (BD)
Gain insight into the region’s mining story at Hannans North Tourist Mine. Enjoy lunch at leisure in town before an afternoon of exploration. Visit Hammond Park, then take a guided Super Pit experience to witness the scale of Australia’s largest open-cut gold mine. A town orientation completes the day.
Day 3. Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie heritage (BD)
Begin your day by stepping back into the gold rush era with a visit to the Museum of the Goldfields in Kalgoorlie, where fascinating exhibits bring the region’s rich mining history and stories of the people who built the Goldfields to life. After lunch at a classic local hotel before exploring Questa Casa, one of the world’s oldest operating brothels, on a guided tour. Then, discover the grandeur and heritage of the Kalgoorlie Town Hall with an insightful guided visit.
Day 4. Golden Quest Discovery Trail to Gwalia (BLD)
Travel part of the famed Golden Quest Discovery Trail. Pause in Menzies for morning tea, then continue to Gwalia. Tour the historic precinct, museum and Hoover House to relive the boom-and-bust stories of the northern Goldfields. Time permitting, call in to a character-filled Goldfields pub before returning to Kalgoorlie for dinner.
Day 5. The Prospector return to Perth (B)
Awaken for an early breakfast and transfer to the station to board The Prospector for the journey back to Perth. On arrival at East Perth Terminal you will be met by a courtesy vehicle and taken safely home.

Suitable for travellers with lower mobility.
You will be required to embark/disembark coaches, trains and other transport via steps unaided. You must be able to carry your own luggage and walk short distances. Stairs may need to be negotiated at times. Travellers with walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome and those requiring accompanying assistance and/or carer may consider these holidays.

Expect guided walking tours of attractions with occasional inclines and stair climbs, some long days and multiple hotel changes during the holiday.
