Experience the contrasting rich red earth of the goldfields and some of Australia’s whitest sand on this holiday tour of Australia’s Golden Outback. Board The Prospector from Perth to Kalgoorlie and explore the hub of Western Australia’s gold mining region. Move south to Esperance where the rugged coastline and pristine beaches contrast with the arid outback, then drop by one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks, Wave Rock.

Day 1. Board The Prospector High-speed Train (D)
Your holiday begins with courtesy home collection as we prepare you for The Prospector. Relax on board and enjoy your high-speed train ride, passing through the vast Wheatbelt and into the rugged goldfields. On arrival in Kalgoorlie, enjoy a short tour before settling into your accommodation for the evening.
Overnight: Quality Inn Railway Motel, Kalgoorlie*

Day 2. Richest Square Mile on Earth (BD)
View the iconic KCGM Super Pit and be amazed by the size of the dump trucks as you look out for a blast. Continue to Paddy Hannan’s Statue, the Museum of the Goldfields and Hannan’s North Tourist Mine. Later, there is the option to visit the Goldfields War Museum or Broad Arrow Hotel with its famous game of two-up.
Overnight: Quality Inn Railway Motel, Kalgoorlie*

Day 3. Kalgoorlie to Esperance (BD)
Admire sweeping views across Lake Lefroy before travelling through Norseman, Salmon Gums and Grass Patch. Arrive in Esperance by late afternoon and enjoy time to relax at your accommodation before dinner.
Overnight: Hospitality Esperance, Esperance

Day 4. Cape Le Grand National Park (BLD)
Today discover the outstanding beauty of Cape Le Grand National Park. Walk along the dazzling white sands of Lucky Bay and explore Thistle Cove. Continue on to Esperance’s very own Stonehenge, a full-sized replica of the original. Enjoy lunch at the Esperance Bird and Animal Park Café before returning for an afternoon at leisure. Optional visits to the Esperance Museum or a coastal scenic drive are available.
Overnight: Hospitality Esperance, Esperance

Day 5. Esperance to Hyden (BD)
Travel through the coastal village of Hopetoun and the agricultural areas of Ravensthorpe and Lake King. Stop at Fitzgerald River National Park and enjoy morning tea at Barrens Beach. Continue to see the painted Hyden Silos, part of Western Australia’s PUBLIC Silo Art Trail, before arriving at Hyden.
Overnight: Wave Rock Motel, Hyden

Day 6. Wave Rock and Homeward Bound (BL)
This morning, marvel at Wave Rock, a natural granite formation standing 15 metres high and stretching 110 metres long. Journey through the Wheatbelt via the quirky Tin Horse Highway and enjoy a farewell lunch at Corrigin before returning to Perth, where we will see you safely home.

With such a diverse collection of travel options, we want to ensure you choose the right holiday for you.


Our tour activity levels are a guide to the required fitness level for each of our holidays.


Look out for the feet when reading about a tour!

  • Relaxed

    Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

  • Moderate

    For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

  • Active

    For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

  • Highly Active

    Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. No walkers allowed.

  • Challenging

    For travellers with a high level of fitness and previous outdoor experience. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
