Itinerary

Your holiday itinerary (ex Perth, Western Australia)

Day 1. Perth to Dalwallinu (LD)
Following collection from your home we depart Perth and travel north along the Great Northern Highway. Enjoy the scenic valleys of Bindoon before arriving in New Norcia, Australia’s only monastic town, where you join a guided tour and lunch. Later we continue to Dalwallinu for a relaxing evening.
1 night: Wheatland Motel, Dalwallinu

Day 2. Dalwallinu to Meekatharra (BD)
Today the countryside steadily transforms as we travel into the more arid station regions around Paynes Find, known for vibrant seasonal wildflowers. The afternoon takes us through the historic Murchison Goldfields where impressive town buildings reflect the prosperity of the gold era. We arrive in Meekatharra for the night.
1 night: Auski Inland Motel, Meekatharra

Day 3. Meekatharra to Mount Augustus (BLD)
This morning we travel into the isolated heart of Western Australia’s north west. Cross vast sheep stations and the headwaters of the Gascoyne River as we make our way to Mount Augustus. Our accommodation sits at the base of this incredible natural landmark, offering a truly unique outback experience.
It is important to note that the Mount Augustus Tourist Park offers shared bathroom facilities. This is outback Western Australia and you should expect a genuine and memorable outback stay.
2 nights: Mount Augustus Tourist Park, Mount Augustus

Day 4. Exploring Mount Augustus (BLD)
Enjoy sunrise on the mount before breakfast. Mount Augustus is a haven for wildlife with parrots, wrens and waterbirds gathering around nearby billabongs. Ancient Aboriginal rock art highlights the long cultural significance of the area and, in season, wildflowers carpet the landscape. After a scenic loop drive and time to relax, we finish the day with an unforgettable sunset over the world’s largest rock.

Day 5. Mount Augustus to Carnarvon (BLD)
Departing Mount Augustus we follow the Gascoyne River west through picturesque river country. Pass Cobra Station, first built in 1896, then continue to Gascoyne Junction for lunch. By late afternoon we reach Carnarvon, renowned for its thriving horticultural industry and warm coastal setting.
2 nights: Best Western Hospitality Inn, Carnarvon

Day 6. Carnarvon (BD)
Today we explore the highlights of Carnarvon, including its heritage sites and famous OTC Dish. At the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum you will discover the important role this region played in the manned space program and Australian communications. Enjoy lunch at your leisure before an afternoon of sightseeing and free time.

Day 7. Carnarvon to Geraldton (BD)
Our morning begins with a visit to one of Carnarvon’s well known plantations. We then journey south along the North West Coastal Highway, stopping at the Billabong Roadhouse for lunch at your leisure. Travelling through Northampton we arrive in Geraldton, the coastal hub of the Mid West, for an evening by the waterfront.
1 night: Best Western Hospitality Inn, Geraldton

Day 8. Geraldton to Perth (BL)
Travel across the windswept Greenough plains to the fishing village of Dongara for morning tea overlooking the harbour. Continue to Jurien Bay for lunch before returning to Perth. Your Discovery Mount Augustus adventure concludes with a late afternoon arrival and your safe transfer home.

Our tour activity levels are a guide to the required fitness level for each of our holidays.


Look out for the feet when reading about a tour!

  • Relaxed

    Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

  • Moderate

    For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

  • Active

    For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

  • Highly Active

    Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. No walkers allowed.

  • Challenging

    For travellers with a high level of fitness and previous outdoor experience. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
