Tropical North Queensland offers a feast for the senses, with its lush rainforests, soaring mountain ranges, and glistening waterfalls. This journey takes you deep into the heart of the Atherton Tablelands before returning to Cairns to continue exploring the tropical paradise of this area.
Itinerary
Day 1. Perth to Cairns (D)
We collect you from home for your flight to Cairns. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. A late light supper is provided on check-in to welcome you to the tropics.
Overnight Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort
Day 2. Cairns to Atherton via Yungaburra (BD)
Begin with a short orientation tour of Cairns, then browse the colourful Rusty’s Markets. Travel the scenic Gillies Range to the Tablelands. Pause at Yungaburra Memorial Park and stroll the Curtain Fig Tree boardwalk before settling into Atherton and dinner at a local restaurant.
3 nights: Atherton Hotel
Day 3. Historic Village Herberton, Bat Hospital & Crystal Caves (BD)
Step into the past at Historic Village Herberton with more than 60 restored buildings and working displays. After lunch at your leisure, meet the remarkable residents of the Bat Hospital Visitor Centre. Continue to Atherton’s Crystal Caves to wander a man-made cavern filled with glittering crystals and prehistoric fossils. Dinner will be at a restaurant in Atherton.
Day 4. Tablelands Produce, Waterfalls & Crater Country (BLD)
Trace the shores of Lake Tinaroo and pause for coach morning tea at Rocky Creek War Memorial Park. Call into Malanda Falls Visitor Centre, then enjoy shared platters for lunch at Mungalli Creek Dairy Café. Visit the photogenic Millaa Millaa Falls and finish with a gentle walk at Mount Hypipamee National Park. Enjoy dinner at another local venue this evening.
Day 5. Lake Barrine Cruise & Return to Cairns (BD)
Savour Devonshire tea at the heritage Lake Barrine Teahouse, followed by a serene wildlife cruise. Enjoy free time for lunch in Yungaburra, then descend to Cairns for an evening at your resort.
4 nights: Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort
Day 6. Botanic Gardens, Aquarium & Sunset Dinner Cruise (BLD)
Stroll the renowned Cairns Botanic Gardens with a guided walk through Flecker Gardens and the historic Tanks precinct. After lunch, explore the Cairns Aquarium to discover species from the Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef. This evening, dine aboard a sailing catamaran while cruising Trinity Inlet at sunset.
Day 7. Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures & Free Afternoon (BLD)
Encounter crocodiles, cassowaries, koalas and more at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. This afternoon is yours to explore Cairns or simply unwind by the pool. Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
Day 8. Kuranda Scenic Railway & Skyrail (BD)
Ride the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway through rainforest-clad ranges and past tumbling waterfalls. Explore Kuranda’s markets and village at your leisure for lunch. Glide back to sea level on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway above the canopy. Dinner this evening: We will take a stroll to a nearby local favourite for our farewell dinner.
Day 9. Cairns to Perth (B)
Your tropical getaway concludes today. After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your journey home. Upon arrival in Perth, we will see you safely home.

Designed for travellers with lower mobility who can manage everyday movement independently. You must be able to embark and disembark coaches, trains, and other transport via steps, carry your own luggage, and walk short distances. Stairs may be encountered at times. Walking aids (sticks and walkers) are welcome. Travellers who bring a companion to help provide assistance may find these holidays suitable.

For travellers who walk confidently and unaided. In addition to Relaxed requirements, expect guided walking tours that may include gentle inclines and stair climbs, some longer days, and multiple hotel changes. Access to accommodation may involve stairs, short walks to facilities, and showers over baths. Walking sticks are welcome unless the tour includes overnight rail or cruising—please check with staff.

For travellers comfortable with full sightseeing days. Building on Moderate requirements, these tours feature more activities, extended periods of standing and walking, and nature-based excursions. You must be able to walk confidently over uneven surfaces at a steady pace, and negotiate busy transport terminals. Expect feature walks for up to 3 hours, and activities that may include small aircraft, vehicles, vessels and watercraft. Not suitable for travellers requiring walking aids or assistance from others.

Requires good general fitness. Excursions will be over more difficult terrain and require a certain level of agility. You will be required to walk confidently for up to 3 hours over uneven surfaces including soft sand, rocky surfaces and creek crossing. Some itineraries will explore remote locations. Building on Highly Active requirements, these tours involve full days of physical activity in remote or rugged locations that may be difficult to access. You must be able to walk confidently for 6 or more hours per day over multiple days while carrying a day pack and be comfortable walking in varied weather conditions. Not suitable for travellers using walking aids or requiring assistance.
