South West Cherry Tour with Megan
Villa Travel Coordinator, Megan Maples, recently joined our South West Cherry Time tour for the day. Here’s what she had to say about her day out!
On Tuesday I was lucky enough to head out on the road as part of the South West Cherry Time tour with our wonderful Villa passengers and coach crew, Terry and Tricia.
A group of spritely seniors jumped on the coach at Abbey Beach Resort for a day of foodie delights in the Margaret River Region. Our first stop of the day was Olio Bello, a boutique award-winning producer of olive oil. We got to indulge in a morning tea of fabulous home-made orange cake and some decidedly dodgy tea-making skills by yours truly. For those who still had room, there was the opportunity to sample all the goodies on offer in the tasting room. Not only can you indulge in tastings offered, you can also sample their exquisite range of beauty products.
Next stop was the Margaret River Venison Farm, a local producer of a fantastic range of small goods. The farm shop also showcases a large variety of locally sourced gourmet products. It’s the perfect place to stock up for Christmas or even for a casual picnic in the region.
Driving down to the town of Margaret River for lunch we had free time to explore the shops before heading out on the road again.
The Berry Farm is nestled in the picturesque Rosa Glen Valley and has a huge range of produce to taste including jams, preserves, sauces and syrups. The winery creates something a little different in the region, making sparkling fruit wine, dessert wine, fortified wine, liqueur, cider and vinegar, which are all available for tasting in the cellar door. Everyone had a great time sampling the produce and purchasing last minute Christmas presents.
Our final stop was the Margaret River Chocolate Company. When you walk in the door, it feels like you are walking into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory with all the colours & smells assailing your senses. Everyone turned into kids again sampling the chocolate buttons and deciding what to buy for the road trip home. Many of us opted for an ice cream, it is summer after all!
Driving back to Busselton, the passengers relaxed listening to music and reminiscing about the highlights of their day out. I left the group at Abbey Beach Resort after enjoying a fabulous day in their company, as well as being able to put a faces to names after chatting on the phone.
Travelling through rolling hills of forests, vineyards and farming country in the coach gives you an amazing perspective of the region as you can see so much more through the huge windows! Terry and Tricia are a wealth of knowledge on the region and genuinely love looking after our passengers.
What a fantastic day getting to know the ropes!
